NEWS Pontardawe Festival is a Fair Trade music festival! Pontardawe have just adopted a Fair Trade policy to provide Fairtrade refreshments for its volunteers and artists, and also to supply and sell Fairtrade products (drinks/snacks) to its visitors.
This will not be a difficult policy to adopt as already, some craft market traders already sell Fairtrade product at the festival for our customers to buy and take home.p>
Fairtrade fits in nicely with other Pontardawe Festival principles of sourcing locally where possible, and to recycle as much waste as is possible. Adopting a Fair Trade policy was the logical step to take next.
How does this affect me the food concession?
Simply put, we will expect you to sell Fairtrade tea, coffee, snacks, drinks and fruit. And, to use Fairtrade ingredients such as Fairtrade Rice etc in your meals.
Does this conflict with your policy to source locally?
No, most Fairtrade products are stuff that is not grown in this country. We challenge you to find Welsh grown coffee, tea, bananas or cocoa!
But it is going to be difficult to source Fairtrade products to sell!
No it is not, local leading food wholesaler Castell Howell (who deliver to Festival traders almost daily during the event) sell almost the entire range of Fairtrade products. Contact them via their website www.castellhowellfoods.co.uk or on 01269 846080. They will be happy to help!

Recycling and Waste
In 2004 when the current team took over the Pontardawe Festival we were horrified at the amount of rubbish that was generated and the fact that it all went into landfill.
In 2005 we decided to recycle and about half of the waste generated avoided going into landfill. This has been improved on each year and during the 2007/8 events we even managed to recycle the plastic glasses that are used in the bar. As a result only about 10% of the waste was sent to landfill!
We need YOUR HELP to take this further... this year we want ALL food traders to use recyclable or re-usable containers for food and drinks, and to use wooden or re-usable utensils. Polystyrene and plastic is not to be used please.
Together we can make a big difference to the impact this event makes on the environment.

Pontardawe Festival prides itself on the variety of food experiences it offers to its visitors. We are a world music festival and seek to offer good-quality food that reflects our international flavour.
We also recognise that there is a limit to the number of outlets we can offer, in order that everyone derives the benefit needed to make it worthwhile.
To book your trading space in this year's festival food court please download and complete the Food Trader's Tender document. Please do not forget to enclose the required documentation in support of your tender.
Please note there is a now a legal requirement that a Fire Risk Assesment as well as a H&S Risk Assessment are in place for your catering establishment - we will require copies of them along with all the other documentation that we require as outlined in the tender document.
NOTE Tenders that do not contain all of the support documentation will be deemed incomplete and will not be considered.
